The Shapeshifting Detective is a full FMV adventure game from the minds behind The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker. Playing as a detective with body swapping powers, you jump into different characters to steer conversations and get the reactions you want out of your suspects. Available for pre-order today, the game’s cast has picked up two big names. Popular YouTuber Jesse Cox and FMV legend Chris Jones will appear in the game in guest roles.
Jesse Cox is a YouTube star with a long lineup of work. After shifting from a focus on World of Warcraft to general Let’s Play content, he has amassed an audience of almost 1 million subscribers. He’s one of the co-hosts of the Co-Optional Podcast and was a frequent collaborator with TotalBiscuit before his death. Jesse Cox has also hosted CoxCon in the United Kingdom since 2015, attracting game developers and influencers alike.
Better known to FMV gamers as the star of the Tex Murphy series, Chris Jones is an FMV legend. Stretching all the way back to 1989, Jones’ bumbling detective has starred in six games. The majority of these were full FMV titles on the cutting edge of technology. The series was revived via Kickstarter with 2014’s Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure. The series continues with The Poisoned Pawn, a follow-up to 2014’s revival that’s currently in development.
Jesse Cox and Chris Jones’ roles in the story are unknown at this time. However, they aren’t the only familiar faces. Continuing the gradual FMV renaissance of the last few years, The Shapeshifting Detective also features a who’s who of full motion video. As the detective’s superior, you have Rupert Booth, the man throwing up the horns as Inspector Jenks in Contradiction. Welcoming you into the crime scene is Aislinn De’Ath, who returns from Doctor Dekker.
The Shapeshifting Detective is aiming for a release on November 6 on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. Pre-orders are open now on both Xbox One and PC.
