Sims 4 Get Famous Expansion Lets Players Become Influencers

Maxis, the developer behind The Sims franchise, announced a new expansion for The Sims 4. Get Famous will be the sixth full expansion released for The Sims 4 and will cover everything from working in entertainment to becoming a star along with other career options, items to furnish your in-game house and Sim, and new places to explore.

The expansion includes access to Del Sol Valley, a “Simmified” version of Hollywood. You will find a downtown area with exclusive hangouts, studio lots, and two residential areas. Gaudy and ornate furniture options will also be available for those with enough Simoleons.

Along with the focus on fame and fortune come two new career choices for The Sims 4. Sims can take a more traditional route to fame as an actor, or take on being an influencer. While no specifics were given for either career path, expect to spend time on studio film lots and live streaming every aspect of your day to your audience.

There has always been a mix of glorification and satire in The Sims franchise, and the developer hit on that point in its press release. EA Senior Producer Grant Rodiek explained this in the press release.

“The development team has added a slew of fun, humorous, and lavish new gameplay content to ensure that fans, and their Sims, can experience the luxury lifestyle as they play with life, this time in the spotlight.”

Get Famous will also include a tie-in with social media star Baby Ariel. Her avatar will appear in the expansion along with with a Simlish version of her song “Aww.”

The Sims franchise has had its share of ups and downs since it first released in February 2000. With four base games and countless expansions and spin-offs, the series as a whole has sold over 200 million copies worldwide in over 60 countries. Reception for The Sims 4 was lukewarm when it launched in 2014, garnering a 70 on Metacritic. The most recent expansion, Seasons, fared better with critics, earning a Metascore of 81.

The Sims 4 Get Famous expansion will be out on November 16, 2018 on PC and Mac for $39.99.
