The Jon Favreau Star Wars TV show has been further detailed. The director has announced that his entry into the sci-fi franchise will be titled The Mandalorian. This live-action show currently has no release date. It will be releasing exclusively on Disney’s new streaming service, which will launch in late 2019.
In an Instagram post, Jon Favreau revealed more details on his Star Wars live-action project. The Mandalorian will be set “after the fall of the Empire” but before “the emergence of the First Order.” This means it will be set squarely in-between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens in the long-running series. The post also adds that the show will be “after the stories of Jango and Boba Fett”, but it will still focus on a member of their race. Further story details include that it will follow the “travails of a lone gunfighter” who is living in the outer reaches of the galaxy and away from the influence of the New Republic.
As mentioned before, a Mandalorian is a member of the race that Jango and Boba Fett hail from. The two bounty hunters are not the only important note about the race, however. The Republic Clones, and by extension the Stormtroopers, used armor based on Mandalorian designs and also shared DNA with the fictional race. Therefore this new TV show will have a lot of lore surrounding it.
The Jon Favreau Star Wars TV show was originally announced earlier this year. As mentioned before, it will be exclusively on Disney’s Netflix competitor, which is tentatively called Disney Now. Other potential shows for the service include a series focusing on Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch. Favreau’s most famous directorial work is the first two entries into the Iron Man series of films. He has also been playing Happy Hogan in the MCU since its inception in 2008.
