American Gods Creator Neil Gaiman Signs Exclusive Amazon Studios Deal

American Gods creator Neil Gaiman has penned an exclusive TV rights deal with Amazon Studios. The acclaimed English author will produce future content for the corporation giant after the announcement was made on Tuesday. Gaiman already has a series coming out on Amazon Prime – the six-part adaptation of Good Omens – but has now opted to sign on to deliver more content to Amazon’s customers from this point on.

The announcement was made at the Amazon Prime Video Presents event in London on Tuesday, according to the Hollywood Reporter, and Gaiman revealed why he had decided to partner with Amazon to make new TV shows.

“What decided me was how much I enjoyed working with the Amazon team on Good Omens,” he explained. “They are smart, gloriously enthusiastic people who weren’t afraid of Good Omens being different but who were as determined as I was to make something as unique and exciting as it is. I’m thrilled to know that I’ll have a home at Amazon in the future where I can make television that nobody’s seen before, that’s quite unlike Good Omens, but just as unusual and just as much fun.”

Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke also added the reason why her division had looked to bring Gaiman on board full-time as she hailed the writer’s amazing knack for penning original, entertaining stories.

“Neil Gaiman is a phenomenally talented writer who creates worlds that are compelling, multi-dimensional and narratively unique,” Salke added. “His fans are ardent, vocal and passionate, and we are fortunate to bring his gifted vision to the Prime Video audience.”

Good Omens, which stars David Tennant and Michael Sheen, will premiere on Amazon Prime Video in 2019. Gaiman’s deal with Amazon, meanwhile, is his second after his deal with Freemantle – the company behind his American Gods adaptation that aired on Starz – expired earlier this year.
