Mass Effect 3 Delayed To 2012

I was really happy that PS3 gamers could finally experience Mass Effect. The series is easily one of the best modern RPGs and broke serious ground in story-telling and bringing core RPG mechanics to blockbuster-sized audiences. I can't wait for Mass Effect 3 later this Fall!

Wait. What? No. Nononononono. You're kidding! NOOOOOOOO! People… you'd better be sitting down for this. Seriously… sit down. I don't want you to hurt your head when you collapse from the news.

Bioware and EA announced today that Mass Effect 3*sniff* –will be delayed! The final piece of the Mass Effect trilogy will now be arriving within Q1 2012, much like Mass Effect 2 did in 2010. I know, this is heart-breaking. Executive Producer Casey Hudson addressed fans at the official Mass Effect forums today:

The development team is laser focused on making sure Mass Effect 3 is the biggest, boldest and best game in the series, ensuring that it exceeds everyone's expectations.

When asked, EA CEO John Riccitiello said:

Essentially, step by step, Bioware is adjusting some of the gameplay mechanics and some of the features that you'll see at E3 that can put this into a genre equivalent of shooter-meets-RPG, and essentially address a far larger market opportunity than Mass Effect 1 did and Mass Effect 2 began to approach.

I guess a delay makes sense if it means the game will be the best it could possibly be. How will I ever make it through the wait? The two shots above and below will have to suffice, along with the Mass Effect 3 blow-out we can be sure to receive at E3 2011.

E3 2011? What's that? Be prepared for the onslaught of coverage, media, previews, interviews, and more from Game Revolution at the year's biggest video gaming conference. You can bet that Mass Effect 3 will get its share of the spotlight!
