Phoenix Wright Trilogy Coming to Consoles and PC

Capcom announced the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy over the weekend at Tokyo Game Show. The trilogy includes the first three games in the Ace Attorney series, and they are coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, PC, and Xbox One in early 2019.

While it’s not the first time the titles have been in HD, it’s the first time they’ve been on Sony and Microsoft consoles. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (2001), Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney — Justice for All (2002), and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney — Trials and Tribulations (2004) are included in the bundle. All three were originally developed for the Game Boy Advance, but have since been ported to iOS, Windows, and the Nintendo DS since their original releases. Check out the trailer below.

The Ace Attorney games are visual novels about various lawyers doing verbal battle in courtrooms. Players usually control Phoenix Wright, a defense attorney. Wright’s goal is to prove his clients are innocent, and players must find evidence and clues to prove their case. The gameplay is a mix of these court trials and investigations set in various “episodes” about different clients. Justice for All added the “psyche-lock” mechanic that allowed players to gain new information by presenting witnesses with evidence that challenges a witness’ perceptions.

Trials and Tribulations was originally conceived as the last game in the Ace Attorney franchise by director Shu Takumi. Since that game launched in 2004 there have been a multitude of games and spin-offs relating to the franchise, including a crossover with the Professor Layton series in 2012. The Ace Attorney series has been generally well-received by critics and fans, and Capcom’s efforts have been met with commercial success as well. There was even an Ace Attorney movie in 2012.

Capcom has not announce pricing for the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy at this time, nor is it clear if there will be a physical release for the trilogy. Expect it on digital shelves sometime in early 2019.
