October 2018 Games, Red Dead Redemption 2 first-person is confirmed.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Has a Full First-Person Mode

Red Dead Redemption 2 is playable in first-person. The Red Dead Redemption 2 first-person mode is available throughout the game and features new animations for all aspects of the game.

According to Polygon, the first-person mode is triggered, on PlayStation 4, by tapping the controller’s touchpad to cycle between camera perspectives. Rockstar confirmed that the entire game is playable in first-person: horse riding, conversations, exploration, shooting, and the inevitable five finger fillet minigame. Rockstar also said that while in-game cinematics won’t change, the perspective for everything else up to the player.

The Red Dead Redemption 2 first-person mode is not Rockstar’s first foray into the perspective. Grand Theft Auto 5 received a full first-person mode when it was ported to the current generation. GTA5‘s first-person mode featured a wide range of new, bespoke animations explicitly created for the perspective. It was also operated with a single button press while in game.

Presumably Red Dead Onlinethe multiplayer component of RDR2—will also offer the first-person mode. Red Dead Online will be coming some time after the single player component, and Rockstar has plans for a beta before it goes live. Information is still scant on Red Dead Online although it is likely to be structured similarly to the wildly popular GTA Online. GTA Online has kept GTA5 in the limelight (and the bestsellers chart) since the game launched in 2013. Red Dead Online could very be yet another success for Rockstar.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming to PS4 and Xbox One on October 26. Arthur Morgan stars in the prequel to Red Dead Redemption. RDR2 is set in 1899, twelve years before the events of the original Redemption. Morgan is a member of the Van der Linde gang, the same one that John Marston was a part of. Marston was the star of 2010’s Red Dead Redemption.
