Gamescom 2018: New Control Trailer Shows Off Mind-Bending Mechanics

Control, the newest IP from Remedy Entertainment, has given us another taste of what’s to come from the mind-bending game. The developer dropped a new Control trailer at Gamescom 2018 and, whilst the footage doesn’t give anything new away in terms of plot, it does showcase more of the trippy dimensional shifts we can expect to see.

The atmosphere is dripping from the trailer: An uneasy soundtrack plays over the top of the video and grows in stature as the footage moves between each scene. We get a glimpse of the world as it’s expected to be, before the music moves up a notch and reality begins to break down for the game’s protagonist Jesse Faden. The video shows off one of the powers available to players once more, with the ability to float and fly through the air expected to be a key element of the gameplay.

It seems that Control will be set primarily inside a skyscraper known as the Oldest House, and a variety of the rooms in this building are shown off in detail. We see a janitor mopping up a weird liquid in a hallway, a control room and a solitary man sat in front of a red fridge before we’re reunited with Jesse. As the video plays on, the colors and hues drain from the environment, however, and give rise to a monochromatic tone that is sure to feature for much of the game.

The game was first unveiled at E3 2018, but little is known about what Control will actually entail. Remedy and publisher 505 Games have elected to remain tight-lipped on plenty of the title. What we do know is that Jesse possesses superpowers, picked up after a traumatic childhood experience, and must utilise them when a supernatural force invades New York. The third-person action-adventure title will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC sometime in 2019.
