Gamescom 2018: The Dark Pictures Trailer Revealed by Until Dawn Creators

The Dark Pictures has been announced by Until Dawn creators Supermassive Games, with the upcoming horror anthology beginning with Man of Medan. Published by Bandai Namco, The Dark Pictures will include a series of standalone horror games, with the first entry in the anthology being released in 2019. Unlike Until Dawn, which was a PS4 exclusive, Man of Medan and the rest of The Dark Pictures anthology will be released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The Man of Medan trailer features a band of adventurers going on a dive to find some sunken treasure. If you’ve played Supermassive Games’ previous work, then you won’t be surprised to learn that this mission doesn’t go as planned for our good-looking protagonists. Exploring an abandoned and suitably creepy ship, the gang find themselves confronted by its ghostly inhabitants.

Supermassive’s Managing Director Pete Samuels has this to say about the upcoming game:

“The story of Man of Medan starts off on a dive boat in the South Pacific. With a rumoured WWII wreck to find, and plenty of on-deck partying to be had, our group of four young Americans and their skipper Fliss get ready for what should be the trip of a lifetime… but it doesn’t go quite to plan. As the day unfolds, and a storm rolls in, they find themselves trapped on board a ghost ship. Subjected to unimaginable stress and terror, they must try to find a way to escape the ship and its sinister history.”

The Dark Pictures is set to dive into a bunch of horror sub-genres, we’ve Samuels saying that Supermassive has “identified 39 that we’d love to represent in the Anthology, but that would take some time!”

Until Dawn was widely praised for its take on the teen slasher sub-genre, with it boasting motion-captured performances from the likes of Rami Malek and Hayden Panettiere. There’s no word yet on how many games Supermassive is planning for The Dark Pictures anthology, though it sounds like Man of Medan will be the first in many entries in the series.
