Gamescom 2018: Transference Release Date and Demo Dropped by Ubisoft

Ubisoft has dropped a new trailer and an official release date for Transference, the upcoming psychological virtual reality game, in preparation of Gamescom 2018. Ubisoft Montreal and SpectreVision’s new title for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC will come out on September 18. Sony fans can also get an idea of what’s in store for them with a free demo available right now on the PlayStation Store.

The demo, titled Transference: The Walter Test Case Demo, is set many years before the events of the main game. It subjects players to a variety of psychological thrilling moments as they travel through the troubled mind of an individual who is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. With a foreboding atmosphere and soundtrack, the demo looks set to offer a glimpse into what players can expect when Transference is officially released next month.

Transference will see players travel into a corrupted simulation of a troubled scientist known as Raymond. The simulation is comprised of various forms of “brain data” from Raymond, his wife and his son, and requires gamers to discover their secrets and collect evidence to help the trio repair their own lives as they prepare to move house.

SpectreVision is an American film production company founded by actor Elijah Wood, as well as directors Daniel Noah and Josh C. Walter. Focusing mainly on horror films, the team’s expertise in producing flicks of that ilk saw it agree a partnership with Ubisoft over Transference and, given Wood’s passion for video games, should ensure that the upcoming title is full of some decent jump scares and other freaky tidbits.

Transference was announced at E3 2018 – the world’s biggest gaming expo – in June, and was partly made famous by Wood stumbling over the game’s presentation. It is also set to be released in VR on Facebook-owned Oculus and Valve’s Vive headset.
