EVO 2018 Winner SonicFox: “I’m Gay… And the Best DBFZ Player on This F***ing Planet”

SonicFox secured the winner’s trophy Dragon Ball FighterZ at EVO 2018, with the pro fighting game player besting his competition in order to win the inaugural tournament for Arc System Works’ game. Clad in the attire of his “fursona,” Dominique McClean bested rival Goichi “GO1” Kishida at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, with an audience of around 250,000 also watching on Twitch.

After winning the tournament, SonicFox immediately reminded his audience of the significance of his victory, taking out his phone on-stage to tweet about his sexuality while also stating that he “isn’t used to” people supporting him:

SonicFox has been widely praised for his unabashed approach to life, with him taking part in fighting tournaments while dressed in his blue fursuit, along with proudly championing his role as one of few LGBTQ members in the pro fighting game community. The 20-year-old has been retweeting messages of support that have flooded in since his victory, with many celebrating his incredible performance during EVO 2018 and his overall impact on the FGC.

SonicFox’s performance in the Dragon Ball FighterZ tournament has bagged the player his fourth EVO 2018 championship, after having previously won trophies for Injustice: Gods Among Us in 2014 and Mortal Kombat X in 2015 and 2016. A member of the team EchoFox, which houses other pro gamers such as Justin Wong and Momochi, SonicFox has also become known for his prowess at the 2D fighting game Skullgirls.
