Michael Douglas Didn’t Understand Ant-Man and the Wasp

If it looked like Michael Douglas didn’t have a clue about what was transpiring in Ant-Man and the Wasp, that’s because he really didn’t know. The actor, who plays inventor Hank Pym in the series, wasn’t fully caught up with the lengthy Marvel Cinematic Universe and wasn’t aware that Ant-Man had appeared in Captain America: Civil War.

Michael Douglas took on the helm of Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man in the character’s debut film of the same name in 2015. Since then, Scott Lang, who took up the Ant-Man name in the movie, joined The Avengers in the  famous airport brawl in Captain America: Civil War. Michael himself had no idea about Ant-Man’s second adventure, meaning when it came to shoot Ant-Man and the Wasp, he didn’t understand the story whatsoever.

Speaking to MTV International, Michael Douglas confirmed he had “no idea what was going on” as he read the script as he wasn’t told to watch what happened after the first movie. He even admitted to never having “read a comic book in my life.”

“I’m so grateful that they brought me into this family.” said Michael, speaking of his vast inexperience with Marvel’s long legacy of products. “I really screwed up because they didn’t tell me when we started [Ant-Man and the Wasp] that I should go see Captain America,”

Even still, his performance has been praised. So even though he didn’t really know what was going on, he either managed to fix it before shooting, or hid it well enough that he didn’t really need to risk opening the can of worms that his confession could bring about.

It goes without saying that the plot of the newest Ant-Man film will somewhat bridge the gap between Ant-Man being missing from the fight against Thanos and his forces during the recent Avengers: Infinity War saga. The movie, which released in the UK just yesterday despite a US release in early July, was rumored to be held back to avoid clashing with the FIFA World Cup.
