No Man’s Sky Galactic Atlas Revealed, Website to Showcase Community Content

No Man’s Sky is about to get its biggest, most expansive update yet. And to augment that patch, developer Hello Games has announced the No Man’s Sky Galactic Atlas in a recent post on their website. It’s a new website that lets players see points of interest in the game’s Euclid Galaxy and is now live.

The Galactic Atlas lets players click around the galaxy and see pictures, read descriptions, look at links from the community, see who discovered the planet, and more. It’s quite extensive in its early state, even if some locations have “Coming Soon”  listed in some of the information boxes. Hello Games even stated that it will “grow in functionality and expand over time.” More and more planets become visible the more you zoom in, showing the overwhelming amount of places you can go and now share.

The blog post also revealed some interesting statistics. Everyone who bought Atlas Rises, one of the game’s last big updates, played it for 45 hours on average. Hello Games also revealed that 20 percent of those players played for 100 hours and five percent played for over 1,000 hours. The playerbase as a whole has logged over 200 million hours into the game so far, which will most likely grow quickly after this Next update comes out alongside the Xbox One version on July 24.

Hello Games founder Sean Murray also used the post to offer some of his thoughts about the current state of the game and his hopes of the future. He explained some of the team’s struggles in the early days but ultimately felt proud of what they were able to do with such a small staff. And while the game has come a long way, he still hopes to find a point where it feels complete to him.

“One day I hope to reach a point where I feel No Man’s Sky is ‘finished,’ but luckily there’s still so much more we want to do,” he said. “Working on Next feels important to us, but I know it’s not the end of the journey. We know the journey would be more fun together.”
