Epic Games Reveals Incredible New Unreal Engine Revenue Split Plan

The creators of Fortnite, Epic Games, have revealed an incredible new Unreal Engine revenue split plan for developers that use Unreal assets. The new revenue plan will be in effect as of today. Epic currently have a 70/30 split, meaning that developers take 70 percent and Epic takes 30 percent. This new revenue plan changes that and gives developers a better deal.

As stated previously, Epic Games have a 70/30 split with developers that use their assets. However, thanks to Venture Beat, we know that the deal that developers will get is a sweet one. As of today, the new revenue split is 88/12, with a huge 88 percent going to developers. This means that Epic will now only take 12 percent.

That’s not all, even though the new deal goes into effect today, it actually went into effect about four years ago. Epic Games plans to pay its Unreal Engine Marketplace creators 88 percent on all sales since the store opened in 2014.

You may be wondering how such a split could be sustainable? According to Epic boss Tim Sweeney, the reason why this is possible is because of the increasingly popular Fortnite. Tim Sweeney went on to say:

“Thanks to both the Marketplace’s growth and the success of Fortnite, Epic now conducts a huge volume of digital commerce,” Sweeney explained. “The resulting economies of scale enable us to pass the savings along to the Unreal Engine Marketplace community, while also making a healthy profit for Epic.”

The massively popular Fortnite isn’t just making money for Epic Games. In a way, it is also making money for developers. The scary thing here is that Fortnite is continuing to get bigger. Fortnite‘s player base and the money it makes continues to grow with every day that passes.

Fortnite is available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and iPhone.
