Wasteland 2 Nintendo Switch Announcement Trailer

Back in December 2017, inXile CEO Brian Fargo first tweeted a Nintendo Switch photo showing off Wasteland 2. He then tweet that the port over to the Nintendo Switch will be handled by the same team that ported Bard’s Tale to iOS and Android. This guy can’t keep secrets or what? Putting those spoilers aside, Nintendo just released an official Wasteland 2 announcement video.

What nobody knows for certain is the actual release date. Brian Fargo just tweeted, “we are in the final QA and will announce a specific day soon!” Some websites are saying release date of Fall 2018 but no sources for that information are being provided. Given that they are in the final QA, maybe the game is coming sooner than people think.

Having a proven CRPG on a mobile device like the Nintendo Switch is exciting news. It’s also going to be interesting to see how a small display can handle the text and whether this will be more suited for a big screen television. Fingers crossed here for uncompromised mobile gaming on this one please.

The version for the Nintendo Switch is Wasteland 2 Director’s Cut and is the same version from 2015 that was released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The Director’s Cut touts some enhancements that include: new character quirks, precision strikes, new perks, thousands of new voice over lines, overhauled interface and improved controls. Considering the original Wasteland was released way back in 1988, it’s safe to say the current version bears the fruit from years of improvements and tweaks.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the game is ported over to the Nintendo Switch and whether the hardware is up for the challenge. With some companies choosing not to release a Nintendo Switch version of their game, it’s a fair question to ask. Given that Wasteland 2 Director’s Cut is a few years old now, this port is likely to be just fine. I’m excited, are you?
