Dead Island 2 Release Date News Coming at a “Later Stage,” Game Still Alive

Whatever happened to Dead Island 2? It was initially announced at E3 2014 and that was over four years ago. Yaeger Development was revealed to be off the project in 2015, but it would be a year later in 2016 that publisher Deep Silver would confirm that Sumo Digital would be taking over development. It’s been two years since then, and all we have is the reiteration that Dead Island 2 is “still in development.”

The official Dead Island Twitter account recently replied to a question asking about Dead Island 2. The reply was: “Dead Island 2 is still in development and we will share more on this at a later stage.” That’s it. When will we receive more information on the game? It seems suspicious that Deep Silver has nothing substantial to show after all these years of “development.”

Many gamers are taking the opportunity of Deep Silver announcing the launch of mobile game Dead Island: Survivors to ask about the sequel to 2011’s Dead Island. It certainly looks like there remain a strong interest and anticipation for Dead Island 2, even with non-existent details and information. When another user complained about the lack of updates in a tweeted reply, the Dead Island official Twitter account replied with: “Appreciate the wait is painful, we’ll be shouting about it on here as soon as we have news to share.”

Gamescom 2018 is the closest major gaming event, which will be taking place next month. However, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll be seeing updates so soon without some kind of teaser or confirmation from Deep Silver. Meanwhile, the original developer of the first Dead Island game, Techland, is already gearing up for its sequel to the similarly-themed Dying Light. Dying Light 2 was featured recently at E3 2018, and the game might even feature incredible 4K FPS gameplay on both the PS4 Pro and Xbox One when it releases sometime in 2019.
