Fortnite Mobile Earned Five Times More Than PUBG With Half the Downloads

The war between Fortnite and PUBG continues, but it looks like the former may be getting the upper hand in one of the more important aspects; revenue. Both are battle royale games with massive player bases around the world, each with its own advantages. Fortnite may boast of a Nintendo Switch version, but PUBG is available on both Android and iOS devices. According to statistics provided by SensorTower, Fortnite mobile has managed to earn five times more than PUBG mobile, despite garnering only half the downloads.

As reported by Bloomberg, Fortnite mobile has earned a whopping $92 million in gross revenue in the span of eleven weeks leading to June 18th, 2018. In the same period of time, PUBG mobile earned $19 million, which is still impressive in its own right but unfortunately five times lower than that of its rival. It turns out that PUBG mobile’s availability on both Android and iOS platforms isn’t as big an advantage as we might think.

It’s interesting to note that one of the world’s largest gaming companies, Tencent, has stakes in both games. Statistics show that Fortnite‘s huge earnings mostly come from the US, contributing an incredible 60 percent of its gross revenue. In comparison, PUBG earns a higher percentage of its revenue in Asia, with Japan and South Korea contributing 17 and 11 percent of gross revenue, respectively.

In other related news, statistics also show that Fortnite and PUBG appeal to different gamer demographics. Fortnite boasts younger players, whereas PUBG counts older players, many of which are those with jobs. Students and children probably prefer Fortnite due to the fact that it’s free to play and features cartoonish graphics. No matter which battle royale games reign supreme, the mobile games industry benefits the most. It is projected that mobile games will be dominating half of the global games industry starting this year.
