Hackers in Super Mario Odyssey isn’t a surprising sentence. While Nintendo is doing their damnedest to fight against any sort of hacking of the system, some things are slipping under the net. That something is porn, and while some may find it amusing, hackers have taken it a step too far this time and now young and old Nintendo Switch users alike are suffering because of it.
Nintendo’s system has been hacked before, but this is mostly by users who have been trying to access programs such as Google and YouTube on the platform and while not moral or innocent, at least these hackers had some class. The hackers tormenting Super Mario Odyssey’s online mode, however, could not lack in anything more.
The Nintendo Switch has several powerful systems in place for their software, including an algorithm that is beneficial in monitoring profile pictures so that nothing untoward ends up going on there and scarring the unfortunate souls who dare look at your profile. Which is to say, it’s very difficult to get anything controversial up on there. Until now, and it’s all thanks to a homebrew tool that allow users to upload some rather unsavory images.
What makes this more of a big deal than it already is, is the fact that in Mario Odyssey’s online mode users are supposed to find balloons of other players. These balloons will usually have the other person’s profile image on it, and because Mario is so accessible to both adults and children, the fact that they’ve been able to be seen on the game by a younger audience is incredibly disturbing.

Hopefully, Nintendo will figure out how to get rid of these sort of images soon. Or at the very least place a report button on their system to help avoid these incidences in the future.
