Dying Light 2 Gameplay

Dying Light 2 Might Feature 4K 60FPS on Both PS4 Pro and Xbox One X

Dying Light 2 was officially revealed during last week’s Microsoft Xbox press conference at E3 2018. It’s a sequel to 2015’s Dying Light. Developed by Techland, the game can best be described as a zombie survival action RPG albeit with a parkour gameplay mechanic similar to the Mirror’s Edge franchise. Impressively, the game might even feature 4K 60PS gameplay on both the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.

Speaking to Wccftech, Techland lead designer Tymon Smektala said that making sure Dying Light 2 runs in 60FPS is more important to the developer than 4K visuals. However, he understands the importance of both, especially in optimizing them for consoles. He said: “Of course, we expect to do this and hope to do this. It’s too early to make any specific declarations at this point because we still have to optimize the game. Of course, we understand the market — you have to support those consoles because the companies behind them put a lot of emphasis on them.”

Dying Light 2 4K 60FPS: How Is This Possible?

How can Techland achieve this feat for Dying Light 2? According to Smektala, they have created a new engine called C-Engine in order to “provide gamers with high fidelity visuals.” The first game used the Chrome Engine 6, which was also used to develop 2016’s Dead Island Definitive Edition.

Smektala continues: “The most important for us is the fluidity of movement because it’s a parkour game. You really have to be immersed in how you move through the city, so 60fps is more important to us than 4K. But, we still have a year to optimize, and we have real wizards when it comes to optimization, so perhaps we’ll deliver both 4K and 60fps.”

Dying Light 2 is slated for release on the PS4, Xbox One and PC sometime in 2019. With an entire year to go before the game releases, there’s probably more than enough time for the developer to deliver its promise. Meanwhile, check out the Dying Light 2 E3 2018 gameplay trailer below.
