Pokemon Gen 8 Confirmed to Feature in Pokemon Switch 2019

Pokemon Gen 8 will officially roll around when the unnamed Pokemon Switch game releases in 2019, it has been revealed. Though this news was expected, The Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara has now confirmed that brand new pocket monsters will feature in next year’s Nintendo Switch game, with Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee set to only feature creatures that have already been established in the Poke-Universe.

There has been some confusion over the state of the Pokemon Switch games, with many believing that a brand new game featuring brand new Pokemon would launch this year. However, after the reveal of Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee ahead of E3 2018, Nintendo announced that an unannounced Pokemon Switch game would also release in 2019. It was suggested that this would feature Pokemon Gen 8, though no official word was given.

Speaking in an interview with Japanese publication Famitsu (via Serebii), it has now been confirmed that Pokemon Switch 2019 will feature Gen 8 and its brand new Pokemon. It’ll also reportedly have “better graphics” than any prior release in the series’ history and that it’ll be a completely new experience. With Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee based on the GameBoy title Pokemon Yellow, fans will be pleased to hear that this will be a completely new adventure.

Generation 7 was debuted back in 2016 with Pokemon Sun and Moon, with the new collection of creatures introduced in the Alolan region. Pokemon Gen 8 has been the subject of much speculation ever since a Nintendo Switch Pokemon game was announced, with multiple “leaks” claiming to show off brand new Pokemon. However, with the new game’s release set to take place in the second half of 2019, it’s unlikely that we’ll get to see any of these brand new creatures anytime soon.

Still, Nintendo could reveal some more information during its Nintendo Direct E3 2018 presentation. You can find out where to watch this event and a bunch of other details right here.
