Destiny 2 Forsaken is official and Bungie has revealed, in a livestream ahead of next week’s E3, some of the additions and changes that the new expansion will be introducing as well as some of the plans Bungie has for Year 2 of Destiny 2.
Forsaken will introduce a new world and a new story that the developers have said will be darker and grittier, with players taking on a different role as a Guardian. The new world, called Tangled Shore, is a new area in the Reef that has been taken over by the Scorn and the Barrens, the top warriors of the Scorn. Players will need to hunt the Barrens, which will represent several archetypes such as sniper and a big melee brute.
The new expansion will also introduce a new weapon system that will include more weapon slots enabling players to equip more weapons at once, such as three shotguns or two hand cannons. Bungie is also bringing back weapon randomization or random rolls, something that many have been asking the developer to bring back to Destiny 2.
There’s also improved mod and masterwork systems as well as a new bow & arrow weapon type that will include short, medium, and long range type bows. Guardians will also get new supers such as a fire knives super that will have the Guardian throw out a flurry of fire knives.
Raiders will also have something new to do in Forsaken as the new Dreaming City location is introduced with the expansion. The Dreaming City, the homeland of the Awoken, will be a new end-game destination that will change as players go through the raid.
Those who enjoy Destiny 2’s PVP will have a new game mode to try called Gambit, which will pit two teams of players against each other. Players will need to take down AI combatants to collect Motes which they’ll need to deposit into their team’s bank. Once a bank is full, a primeval will be summoned for the team, which will signal their victory. Players will have several ways to prevent the enemy team from progressing in Gambit including invading the enemy’s base as well as activating a blocker that will lock the enemy team’s bank.
The Crucible will also be getting four new maps and Power will now matter in both the Iron Banner and Trials, a big change that will definitely affect how people go into the Crucible.
Forsaken will also introduce Collections, which helps players track the items they’ve collected, as well as a Triumph system, which are basically in-game achievements that will allow players unlock titles for their Guardians.
As with every new Destiny 2 expansion, new exotics, new subclass paths, new bounties, and more will also be released when Forsaken launches. Lastly, the expansion will introduce bulk shader deletion, another feature that fans have been clamoring for.
Bungie plans to reveal more about Forsaken including details on its story and more during E3 next week. Destiny 2 Forsaken is scheduled for release on September 4, 2018. You can check out the reveal trailer for the expansion below:

While that's worthy of celebration, it has been confirmed that Activision will partner with Blizzard to bring Destiny 2 exclusively to the Blizzard Desktop App, formerly known as Battle.net. No Dedicated Servers
Despite being the most financially successful new franchise of the generation, Destiny seems to like cutting corners when it comes to servers. This means that all connections will be host using peer-to-peer connectivity, completely reliant on the connectivity of its player base. -
3 Familiar Classes
Given that many considered the original Destiny to be "rushed", it was only natural to expect additional playable classes in its sequel. Surprisingly, Bungie has decided to stick with only three, consisting of Hunter, Warlock, and Titan. Equally as surprising, most of the same abilities will be carried over, although there will be some new ones. -
30 FPS, Except On PC
PC gamers are going to have a significant perk in the way of framerate, as all console versions will be 30 FPS locked. Even the Project Scorpio and PS4 Pro versions won't be able to push beyond this limit. Meanwhile, the PC version will enjoy up to 60 FPS. For a game that's about moving and shooting in a fast-paced environment, that's a major detail. -
