Capcom has been fairly open about Mega Man 11, but not as forthcoming about two of its other franchises. This could all change soon for the briefly mentioned Resident Evil 2 Remake and oft-rumored Devil May Cry 5, given some recent revisions behind the scenes. The web domain for Resident Evil 2 was recently updated and the domain for Devil May Cry 5 was registered in late May. Capcom has not mentioned either in a long time (or in Devil May Cry 5‘s case, at all) and these small updates could mean that the publisher is ready to unveil one or both titles.
Some sleuths over ResetEra dug up the web domains for the games in question. While anyone can register those two domains, one particular thread ties it all together: GMO Internet. This web hosting company also registered the domains for Resident Evil 7 and Monster Hunter World, which are both recent Capcom games. The Resident Evil 2 website, as you might have guessed, was originally registered back in 1997 for the game’s PS1 release but was recently updated a few months ago.
Since E3 is coming up next week, this could point to both titles finally having their grand reveals at the show. While these websites do not confirm anything, their juxtaposition against E3 doesn’t seem like an innocent coincidence. Of course, remember that Capcom has not confirmed that either of these games will appear next week.
Capcom has at least confirmed that the Resident Evil 2 Remake was indeed real. Back in August 2015, Capcom released a video with Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi announcing that the project had been approved. He didn’t say much other than he wanted to “deliver the gameplay experience you’ve been waiting for” and that it would be “some time” before we saw any sort of update. It has been almost three years since that video.
Devil May Cry 5, on the other hand, has not been talked about officially by Capcom. The publisher has been quiet about the series since Ninja Theory’s reboot. Given the controversy surrounding its new aesthetic and Ninja Theory’s other projects, it was widely rumored that Capcom had taken back the reigns to internally develop the next title.
ResetEra’s batch of unconfirmed rumors from November 2017 stated the game was meant to be revealed at PSX 2017 and scheduled to come out in late 2018 or early 2019. Hideaki Itsuno, the game’s rumored director, tweeted in January that he wanted to announce his new game sometime this year. Chances are, if these websites are indeed foreshadowing upcoming reveals, Capcom will probably show them at E3 next week.
