Resident Evil 7 on Switch May Not Save Game Files

Resident Evil 7 was met with a surprisingly lukewarm reception when it debuted last year. While it did well with critics, sales weren’t too great. Regardless of this, more than a few fans were eager at the potential of having a Resident Evil game on the Nintendo Switch. Little did they know that the only version they would be receiving is a rented version from cloud servers, aptly named Resident Evil 7 Cloud Version.

The reception to this news was rather mixed. While some were just happy that they could play Resident Evil 7 on the Switch, others had the mindset that if they had to rent the game only to have it taken away after 180 days then they didn’t see the point of buying the game in the first place. And while this unconventional port is only set for Japan right now, that didn’t stop many people from thinking the whole thing was a waste of time.

Well with the news that game saves for the cloud version may not even function properly, we can’t help but think these people may have a point. This news comes from the official Capcom website where Capcom makes “no promises” about saved data actually being kept on their servers past the 180 days players pay to rent it, or even within that time period should something go wrong and the data becomes corrupted.

This wouldn’t be much of an issue if players were able to save their RE7 data locally, but the Switch won’t offer that service and thus Resident Evil 7 saves will, to put it bluntly, be left vulnerable no matter what a player does. A loss of data is frustrating enough, but to have an unreliable system be a possible cause of it? We’re not sure how Capcom will deal with this in the future, but as of now, the cloud version looks more unreliable than ever.
