God of War Tops UK Sales Charts for Five Consecutive Weeks, Hyrule Warriors Debuts at Number Three

Can no game stop the unstoppable force that is God of War? It is now officially the first PS4 exclusive to hold onto the number one position for an incredible fifth consecutive week in the UK sales charts. To be fair, there were few major releases last week that could have toppled Kratos’ latest adventure but it looks like that might change very soon.

According to the latest Ukie Games Charts, God of War is only one more consecutive week away from reaching the record held by the original The Last of Us on the PS3. That game was number one for six consecutive weeks when it was initially released. However, the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive will have tough competition to overcome next week, as several major releases make their debut. That includes another PS4 exclusive in Detroit Become Human, multiplatform Dark Souls Remastered and the Xbox One exclusive State of Decay 2.

God of War Fifth Consecutive Week: New Releases in UK Sales Chart

Only one new release managed to break into the top ten UK games sales chart and it’s Hyrule Warrior Definitive Edition on the Nintendo Switch. It’s also technically a port since the game originally launched on the Wii U and later received a 3DS release. Two other games from the hybrid console’s library grab places in the chart, with Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze at fourth place and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at eighth place.

Many titles gained huge sales boosts after being promoted through the “LetsPlayMay” campaign. These include Lego Marvel Superheroes 2, Assassin’s Creed Origins, GTA V and Call of Duty WWII, which grabbed the sixth, seventh, ninth and tenth place, respectively. The most surprising position of the week falls to FIFA 18, which rose to second place albeit not being in the campaign.

Meanwhile, smaller releases such as Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey Redux on the Nintendo 3DS and Dragon’s Crown Pro on the PS4 each debuted at number 31 and 33. Nintendo Labo continues its underwhelming run with Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 01: Variety Kit settling for number 25 while Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 02: Robot Kit has vanished completely from the top forty sales chart.
