Prey’s Mysterious New Achievements Hint at Upcoming DLC

Without the help of Walmart Canada this time, Bethesda has hinted at more of their upcoming E3 lineup. Prey received 10 new Steam achievements today, heavily implying that the oft-rumored moon-based DLC is coming. The achievements, when put together, spell out “If you believed they put a man on the moon.”

This achievement list is not the first time Bethesda or developer Arkane Studios has hinted or talked about their DLC plans for Prey. The official Prey Twitter account tweeted this gif of the moon back in March with the phrase “Do we really know what’s out there?” Sleuths on the Prey subreddit have also pieced together binary code and comments from Bethesda’s employees, further talking around the DLC.

Arkane’s staff also took this picture on Prey‘s one-year anniversary earlier this month. You’ll notice that some of the red-eyed employees are holding the same picture seen on the list of achievements. Also, in the top right, you can see “6.10.18 ” scribbled on the whiteboard, which is the same date as Bethesda’s E3 press conference.

It’s safe to think that this expansion will involve the moon somehow. But we don’t know what kind of expansion it will be. Arkane did make Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, which was a $30 standalone game set in Dishonored 2‘s world. It featured a different playable character and a smaller, more focused set of powers but with the same core strengths as its full-priced predecessor.

But Death of the Outsider did not require players to own Dishonored 2. These new Prey DLC achievements listed are just below the base game’s achievements, meaning that it could require players own the original Prey. It could just be a way to drop a hint or it could be one of those expansions where owning the main game is optional like Assassin’s Creed 4: Freedom Cry.

It looks like we will find out more on June 10th at 6:30 PM PST during Bethesda’s E3 press conference, where they will be showing Rage 2 among other titles.
