Fortnite is going to cross over with Avengers Infinity War. The movie’s main villain, Thanos, will be making an appearance in the game for a limited period of time. Starting from May 8th, 2018 onwards, the Mad Titan will arrive in the game, wielding his Infinity Gauntlet which holds the powerful Infinity Stones. The (arguably) biggest game in the world meets the biggest movie of all time.
Fortnite Avengers Infinity War: What is the new gameplay mode?
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the so-called “Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup” mode for Fortnite Battle Royale will still largely feature the same structure. One hundred players will descend on to the map and fight until only one is left standing. The twist is that the Infinity Gauntlet will randomly appear anywhere on the map.
Players who find the Infinity Gauntlet will find themselves literally turning into the purple-skinned Thanos himself. That player will purportedly wield “all the power” that comes with wielding a weapon which can alter reality. If this is true, whoever wields the Infinity Gauntlet in a Fortnite match will probably feel like he or she is playing in God Mode. At the time of writing, the specific abilities or buffs provided by the Infinity Gauntlet have not been revealed.
Fortnite Avengers Infinity War: How did it become a reality?
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Avengers Infinity War co-director Joe Russo said: “Over the past few months, while we were editing Infinity War, we’d take breaks to hop on and get in a few games. And then we started thinking, how cool would it be to have some kind of Avengers–Fortnite mashup? So we stalked Donald.”
The Donald he’s referring to is actually Donald Mustard, who is the worldwide creative director of Epic Games. This will be the first time that Fortnite will be featuring branded content. Avenger Infinity War recently became the fastest movie in history to reach one billion dollars at the box office, so it’s actually the best time for Epic Games to announce this unexpected crossover. The “Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup” mode will be available for free for all Fortnite players on every platform, which includes the PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and iOS.
