FIFA 18 is set to receive FIFA World Cup 2018 Russia content as a free update on May 29th, 2018. That’s only a few weeks before the real tournament is slated to officially kick off on June 14, 2018. In the past, we have received standalone games for the previous iterations of the FIFA World Cup. Now it looks like football gaming has evolved beyond requiring another full game just to accommodate one of the world’s most anticipated sporting events.
According to EA, the free FIFA World Cup 2018 Russia content update for FIFA 18 will offer an authentic experience by featuring all 32 qualified nationals teams, match balls and the iconic trophy, which will all be rendered for the first time using the Frostbite Engine. All 12 official stadiums from the upcoming event in Russia will also be included.
If players are interested in playing through the FIFA World Cup with their own country of choice, and they don’t support one of the 32 nations which qualified for the tournament, there’s some good news. The free content update will also grant players the ability to create their own custom FIFA World Cup tournament and choose any of the national teams available in FIFA 18, including those which failed to qualify for Russia such as the Netherlands, Italy and the United States.
Additionally, FIFA 18‘s Ultimate Team mode will also provide a FIFA World Cup experience with new icons, a chemistry system and player items with new ratings. Dubbed the FIFA World Cup Ultimate Team, players can build their dream team with stars from all 32 qualified national teams. It will contain versions of Single Player Draft, Online Draft, and Squad Building Challenges, as well as Single Player and Online Tournament modes.
In other related news, FIFA 18 was one of the games to be declared illegal in Belgium for containing loot boxes, along with Overwatch and CS: GO. We also recently reported that the FIFA 18 Ultimate Team Community Team of The Season has been announced after being voted and chosen by fans.
