Square Enix, Eidos Montreal, and Crystal Dynamics have officially revealed the new full-length trailer for Shadow of the Tomb Raider, as well as the release date for the latest installment of the Tomb Raider reboot franchise. Lara Croft will return in what looks like it will be the darkest game in the series to date.
According to the official site, Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be released worldwide on September 14th, 2018 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Camilla Luddington, who also starred in 2013’s Tomb Raider and 2015’s Rise of the Tomb Raider, is confirmed to be reprising her role as archaeologist Lara Croft for the upcoming game.
The official synopsis for Shadow of the Tomb Raider states that “Lara must master a deadly jungle, overcome terrifying tombs, and persevere through her darkest hour. As she races to save the world from a Maya apocalypse, Lara will ultimately be forged into the Tomb Raider she is destined to be.”
The game’s key features mention that Shadow of the Tomb Raider will have a jungle environment similar to the setting of 2013’s Tomb Raider, as well as “underwater environments filled with crevasses and deep tunnel systems.” Stealth seems to be another key feature as the upcoming game will allow Lara to “strike suddenly and disappear like a jaguar, use mud as camouflage, and instill fear in enemies to sow chaos.”
Additionally, Shadow of the Tomb Raider will feature more tombs for players to discover and explore. It also boasts the “biggest hub space ever found in a Tomb Raider game.” The standard edition of the game is already available for pre-order here. Those who pre-order the Digital Deluxe, Croft Edition and Ultimate Editions will be able to play the game 48 hours earlier than everyone else.
The details of the game’s season pass have also been revealed. It will contain seven new adventures dubbed “Paths.” Each path will feature new narrative, new missions, a Challenge Tomb, a new weapon, a new outfit and a new skill. Interestingly, the first Challenge Tomb will introduce new co-op functionality for the first time ever. An exclusive weapon, outfit, and skill will also be available for Season Pass owners on Day One.
