SNES Classic Sells Over 5 Million Units

Nintendo’s year just seems to be getting better and better, because if it isn’t the Nintendo Switch or 3DS winning hearts then its certain to be the beloved, SNES Classic. Who would have thought that a classic could do so well, especially with the Switch being around?

In Nintendo’s latest financial reports to their investors, it was revealed that the SNES Classic sold over 5 million units. Considering that in January it was reported by Nintendo that the SNES Classic had already passed over four million units, the fact that the console has done so well in such a short amount of time is commendable.

The SNES Classic first went on sale in September last year, and with Nintendo not wishing to repeat the disaster that was the NES launch, which left many without a console in the first place due to shortages, there were far more units of the product produced. Of course, that hasn’t reduced trying to get a SNES Classic from the bloodbath it can be, especially when it comes to pre-orders.

Still, despite the SNES Classic being very popular among gamers, it does make a regular appearance in stores such as Amazon, GAME and surprisingly, Tesco. While it may not offer too many unique games or features, you can’t deny that the SNES Classic is great for fans who want to reimmerse themselves in the nostalgic games that made them gamers in the first place.

If you’ve still not got the SNES Classic and want to know what games that are included with it, then here’s a quick list below:

  • Contra 3: The Alien Wars
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • EarthBound
  • Final Fantasy 3
  • F-Zero
  • Kirby Super Star
