Nintendo Switch Sold Over 17 Million Units, Super Mario Odyssey Tops 10 Million Copies

Nintendo announced its financial earnings earlier today. In doing so, the company released the latest numbers for both its hardware and software sales., and it’s quite amazing how far the Nintendo Switch has come after approximately a year since its March 2017 launch. The software sales number are pretty impressive, too.

According to the official Nintendo site, the list of dedicated video game sales units shows that the Nintendo Switch has reached a whopping 17.79 million units sold and exceeded over 68 million in total software sales for the platform. That’s now about four million more than the Wii U, which only managed to sell 13.56 million units in its lifetime.

The list of top-selling title sales units for the Nintendo Switch shows that Super Mario Odyssey has sold a whopping 10.41 million copies since it was released back in October 2017. That’s followed by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild with 9.22 and 8.48 million units sold, respectively. Those numbers are miles ahead of other games in the list which barely broke over a million units each, which includes Kirby Star Allies, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and ARMS.

The Nintendo financial earnings report also revealed that the company’s forecast estimates that sales of Nintendo Switch units will reach 20 million this year, which is surely possible judging from the latest numbers. Total software titles for the Nintendo Switch is also expected to reach over 100 million in the coming year.

Who knows how far the Nintendo Switch can go in a few years. The release of Nintendo Labo is off to a great start in its home country of Japan, even accomplishing the impressive feat of outselling God of War in its debut week. Nintendo’s hybrid console will probably continue its current successful run if more great first-party titles and unique ideas like Nintendo Labo keep being released in the coming years.
