Destiny 2 Warmind Expansion Details Reveals New Horde-Like Escalation Protocol Mode

In the Warmind Reveal live stream earlier today, Bungie confirmed several details for the upcoming expansion for Destiny 2. The Warmind expansion was originally announced when the developer revealed the game’s development roadmap for summer 2018 earlier this month. Warmind will be the second expansion for Destiny 2 and it will launch on May 8th, 2018.

Bungie community manager Chris Shannon revealed that the Destiny 2 Warmind expansion will add a new endgame co-op mode dubbed Escalation Protocol. It’s a challenge where players can activate to fight new enemies, solve new puzzles and collect exclusive loot. Escalation Protocol works like a horde mode, where players will face seven waves, with a unique boss in every wave.

Additionally, the Destiny 2 Warmind expansion will add Private Matches and Seasonal Rankings in the Crucible. A new Raid Lair, new Strikes, and a new NPC named Ana Bray will also arrive in the new expansion.

The story in the Destiny 2 Warmind expansion describes an artificial intelligence named Rasputin who wakes up from a long sleep. He unleashes a bunch of satellites and cracks open the polar ice cap on Mars, allowing the Hive to escape to the surface once again.

Earlier in April, Bungie revealed that it will release all the new Crucible maps for the Warmind expansion into matchmaking for all players, along with the maps previously released with Curse of Osiris. Every player will also receive new arenas in matchmade playlists like Quickplay, Competitive, Trials of the Nine, Iron Banner, including the new weekly rotators like Rumble and Mayhem. However, players need to purchase each Expansion to have exclusive access to play those Crucible maps with other players in private matches.

Highly-anticipated features like Weapon Randomization, Weapon Slot Changes, Gear Collections, and Records are slated to arrive in September, which has been designated as Season Four. Bungie also has plans for Raid Prestige and Raid Lair changes, which will be updated and added in the next Development Roadmap.
