Star Wars Battlefront 2 Microtransactions are Coming Back in Next Update

In a not-so-surprising turn of events, EA has brought back crystals for Star Wars Battlefront 2. The game will be updated on April 18th, letting players purchase crystals, an in-game currency, so that they can then spend on cosmetics and their upgrades. However, for those who aren’t looking to spend their hard-earned cash on Battlefront 2 crystals (and we really can’t blame you for that), then you’ll also be able to purchase these cosmetic skins using credits you can earn in-game. EA backtracking on their approach to cosmetic microtransactions is somewhat funny to witness now, especially considering how they had mistakenly assumed we wouldn’t want a pink Darth Vader cosmetic skin…

Nevertheless, EA has announced today that with the upcoming update there will be more than 50 new appearances, including new Endor-themed looks for Han Solo and Leia Organa. While there hasn’t been any mention of a pink Darth Vader skin (sadly we may only have mods for that), there are a number of other skins included in the official forum post, such as Ach-To Rey and Wounded Chewbacca. There are a number of other changes included in the post, as well as a confirmation for a Battlefront Season 2 that will start sometime in May.

For newcomers who may not be aware of the goings on with Battlefront 2, crystals originally debuted along with the game, however, the backlash that EA received on their ‘pay-to-win’ method led to them pulling crystals from the game completely. It appeased fans for a short while, yet the promise of bringing the crystals back did anything but. That said, at the time EA had no information to give out on how these crystals would be implemented, hence the disturbance in the force fans felt when the news was announced.

However now that we know crystals are coming back for cosmetics only, will fans be pleased with the news too? Are you happy with these new changes with Battlefront 2’s crystals? Let us know in the comments below.
