Reviewers Can’t Agree On Resident Evil 6

Capcom's own Dragon's Dogma way back in May received scores ranging from 40 to 90, with my review on the upper end, splitting reviewers left and right. I thought we were in crazyville… until now. Who knew that Resident Evil 6 would divide us even more?

At the time of this writing, Resident Evil 6 has an average Metacritic score of 69 (on Xbox 360) and a Gamerankings average of 70.19%. On the high end, two reviewers gave the game a 92, with Cheat Code Central calling it "immensely entertaining" and ZTGameDomain saying that it "is truly one of the best experiences I have had with a game this year". Considering that we had Journey, Mass Effect 3, and Borderlands 2, that's extremely high praise.

Destructoid's infamous reviewer Jim Sterling, however, was hardly as impressed, giving this "Michael Bay movie" a 3 and calls out Capcom for abandoning "any pretense of the survival horror genre". But it's hardly alone in its vitriol: GameSpot describes the gameplay as "so poorly paced, so utterly misconceived, so reliant on stick wriggles and button", and Polygon says that "it lacks a fundamental understanding of why action games are fun". Youchies…

Anthony Severino, who reviewed the game on sister site, PlayStation LifeStyle, gave Resident Evil 6 a fitting 6/10, said that the other characters' campaigns actually detracted from Leon's, leaving the game feeling "disjointed" and "diluted".

Game Revolution's Blake Peterson had more even-handed approach in his 3.5/5 review, praising the game's wealth of graphically awesome content and cross-over multiplayer sections but criticizing its "fragmented, poorly told story", equally "poor chase sections", and "average shooter gameplay".

We know the game isn't out yet until tomorrow, but for those who played the demo, what do you guys think so far? Even if you haven't played the demo yet, on which side do you think you'll stand?
