Spyro Reignited Trilogy Gameplay Trailer Showcases Remaster vs PS1 Classic

Alongside the game’s official reveal — which was marred slightly by numerous leaks — a Spyro Reignited Trilogy gameplay trailer has been released to the community of expectant gamers. Though the surprise was ruined, actually being able to see gameplay of the new remaster is still an exciting experience.

To show just how far the visuals have come, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy gameplay trailer pits the new “reignited” game with its incredible graphics, against the old, blocky Spyro of 1998. The poor purple dragon hasn’t aged well in the last 20 years, and so the new lick of paint (and assortment of other technical marvels) are certain to be appreciated!

Take a look at the Spyro Reignited Trilogy gameplay trailer below. (Warning: Rose-tinted glasses will be shattered by the “classic’s” not-so-fantastic graphics!)

As you probably can guess from the name, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy will include remasters of all three original Spyro games. That’s Spyro the DragonSpyro 2: Ripto’s Rage! and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. Combined, there’s over 100 levels for players to complete, which have all been remastered “with breathtaking graphical updates and improved gameplay controls.” These upgrades include improved environments, updated controls, brand-new lighting and recreated cinematics.

Speaking of launch, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy release date is September 21, 2018 for both PS4 and Xbox One versions. (Support for other platforms has yet to be confirmed or denied.)

I know many users were hoping for Nintendo Switch support, but that hasn’t yet been confirmed. With so much time before launch, it’s possible that Activision/Nintendo is saving that announcement for an event like E3 or a Nintendo Direct. Keep those fingers crossed, Switch fans!

The game is being developed by Toys for Bob — who were responsible for several Skylanders games and also the Nintendo Switch version(!) of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy — and will be published by Activision.
