Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Now Backwards Compatible on Xbox One

It’s probably not the Call of Duty announcement everyone wanted, but Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is now available on Xbox One through its backwards compatibility program, meaning you can go through the first chapter of the Soap saga exactly as it looked 11 (!) years ago.

Larry Hryb (who else?) confirmed on Twitter that the CoD game that started it all – in terms of incredible popularity, at least – would be available to play on your Xbox One through backwards compatibility should you own a copy of the Xbox 360 disc.

If you don’t own a physical copy of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, you’ll be pleased to know that the game is available digitally on the Xbox Store and, as luck would have it, it’s currently on sale for £16.99/$16.99. It’s almost as if they knew it was coming…

So, let’s address the remastered elephant in the room. Yes, Modern Warfare Remastered is a thing, but it might not be to everyone’s tastes. The edges have been smoothed, the graphics made crisper, sure, but it’s still not the original, gritty thing we hold so dear in our mind’s eye.

Coming in at just shy of £20/$20 may be a little steep for those who haven’t dived into saving the world with Captain Price and co., but it might be worth it just to replicate how everyone else felt when first infiltrating that Russian ship all those years ago. There’s really been nothing like it before or since.

As of writing, the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare servers are still open, so have it. Anyone up for a game of Team Deathmatch on Overgrown?
