343 Doesn’t Want To ‘Shoehorn’ Kinect Into Halo 4

In an interview with CVG, Halo series director Frank O'Connor said that 343's Halo 4 works best with traditional gamepad controls instead of motion controls.

"Halo is a core game series, and more than many others is directly linked to the muscle memory of holding an Xbox controller, going back as far as the days of the Duke on the first Xbox," O'Connor said. "Kinect is a logical extension of the UI, and with regards to some of the sci-fi themes we're actually pretty excited about it, but not for the controls. That's not what it's for, and we would never try to shoehorn that into our game."

In other words, Halo 4 definitely would not be "Better with Kinect", and we will not see this purple stamp across the box art.

However, O'Connor did say that the Xbox Live app, Halo Waypoint, that will be launched through Halo 4 will work with Kinect. Thus, Microsoft's declaration that all first-party Xbox 360 games would use Kinect in some form will still be upheld, albeit in a roundabout way for Halo 4. O'Connor did not detail how Kinect would function with Halo Waypoint at this time.
