Sea of Thieves Day One Patch

Sea of Thieves Day One Patch Is a Literal Eye Patch

The Sea of Thieves day one patch has been detailed, but it might not be what you’re expecting. Nowadays, it’s pretty much expected for all games to require an update at launch. A few extra bugs fixes to get things started as smoothly as possible, or some minor tweaks to ensure the game is ready for the masses — day one patches are perfectly normal. Well, that’s what I thought until I saw the Sea of Thieves day one patch, which is a literal pirate’s eye patch.

Pun-lovers will no doubt appreciate the addition of the “Day One Patch” clothing item, with a description reading: “A message in a bottle from Jolly Jefabell washed ashore. Eye patch makers read it and say ‘aye’.”

The name “Jolly Jefabell” refers to a Reddit user who had created a thread asking Rare to include an eye patch named “Day One Patch.” The request was pitched 19 days ago. Clearly Rare was listening, as we now see the item in-game.

As for an actual day one patch, with improvements and other changes, I imagine we’ll still see some kind of update at launch. While Sea of Thieves has undergone a lot of testing — including an open final beta, where all PC and Xbox One players were invited to stress test the game — there’s bound to still be some areas that need polish, as the launch of multiplayer-focused experiences rarely go 100 percent smoothly.

Expect more Sea of Thieves Easter eggs to start popping up following the game’s March 20 launch. It’s coming to both PC and Xbox One, with support for cross-play and Xbox Play Anywhere.
