Capcom has announced that Monster Hunter World will be collaborating with Devil May Cry. This purpose of this crossover is to celebrate the release of Devil May Cry HD Collection, which is now available for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Capcom employee Yuri Araujo revealed the news via a blog post on Capcom Unity. The trailer below showcases Devil May Cry‘s protagonist Dante fighting monsters and doing what monster hunters do in Monster Hunter World.
The collaboration grants Monster Hunter World players a unique Charge Blade-type weapon that combines the iconic Force Edge and Alastor swords from the Devil May Cry franchise. According to Devil May Cry lore, Force Edge is the demonic sword originally wielded by Dante’s father, Sparda. Alastor was a weapon with lightning attributes, which made its only appearance in the very first Devil May Cry game back in 2001.
This weapon is basically a Force Edge, which can transform into an Alastor at will, similar to how a Charge Blade would usually change from a sword into an ax. Although it cannot turn into a shield like most Charge Blade weapons, players will still be able to guard using it.
At the time of writing, no specific release date has been revealed for the collaboration. However, Araujo confirms that the Event Quest will be available for all Monster Hunter World players when it arrives.
In other related news, Monster Hunter World recently became the best-selling title in Capcom history, shipping over 7.5 million units worldwide since it was launched. According to the most recent Media Create Sales figures, the game has also been highly successful in Japan, dominating the top of the top twenty software sales charts since it was released. That amounts to a total lifetime sales of 1,928,890 units in Japan alone. The game was also recently revealed to have been most downloaded game on the PlayStation Store for the second month in a row.
