Destiny 2 has once again come under fire from its community, with players now learning that its Curse of Osiris DLC has locked them out of its Prestige Leviathan raid unless they own the expansion.
The Prestige difficulty level for the Leviathan Raid, which contains better rewards for those who complete it, was previously accessible to everyone in Destiny 2. However, with the release of Curse of Osiris it is now locked behind the DLC, bumping up the required Power level to 330 and displaying a message indicating that players must purchase the expansion in order to play it.
This effectively means that those who were playing their way through the Leviathan raid on Prestige difficulty in the hours prior to Curse of Osiris’s release will now no longer be able to do so, with Bungie preventing them from continuing unless they cough up for the DLC. Not only that, but the Prestige difficulty being locked out now means that those who haven’t already completed it are unable to earn all of its achievements, with those previously seeking a Platinum trophy in Destiny 2 now having to pay for Curse of Osiris in order to do so.
Needless to say this has angered the Destiny 2 community, with many suggesting that Bungie should have thought up a different system for rewarding players with DLC gear without locking them out of content they were previously able to play.

With some of Curse of Osiris’s high-end rewards only available by completing the Leviathan raid on Prestige difficulty, Bungie appears to have locked Prestige Leviathan behind the DLC in order to prevent vanilla players from gaining access to them. However, this also ensures that these players now no longer have access to the same amount of content they did prior to the release of the expansion, with many suggesting that Bungie have made this change in order to convince people to fork out for the new DLC.
It’s a messy situation, and one that won’t be resolved unless Bungie allows vanilla players to once again access the Prestige Leviathan raid. With Destiny 2 having already been criticized for its lack of content, locking one of the base game’s biggest challenges behind what is essentially a paywall is not good news for the game’s community. Hopefully this issue will be rectified so that players of the vanilla game won’t feel like they’re missing out because they haven’t forked out more cash.
