Xenoblade Chronicles X Could Come to Switch After Xenoblade Chronicles 2, President Says

The President of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 developer Monolith Soft has revealed that Xenoblade Chronicles X could come to Nintendo Switch. This would only happen if demand was high enough for a port of the Wii U JRPG, but President Tesuya Takahashi does personally want to play Xenoblade Chronicles X on Switch.

Takahashi revealed this in a recent interview regarding the upcoming release of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 with Japanese website 4Gamer and translated by Siliconera. When asked if there is a chance we can see Xenoblade Chronicles X on other hardware, he responded:

“Personally speaking, there are times I feel like playing Xenoblade Chronicles X and think about how nice it would be to play it on the Nintendo Switch. Of course that will depend on demand and such,  but I will think about it while discussing future plans with Nintendo.”

Xenoblade Chronicles X originally released in December 2015 exclusively for Wii U. A follow-up to the original that released on Wii, it sold just about the same as Xenoblade Chronicles (via VGChartz) despite being on a platform that only sold just over 13 million units or just over a tenth of the Wii.

Time will tell how Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will do when it releases tomorrow, but it seems – based on Takahashi’s response – that the sequel’s sales will show whether or not the demand for X to come to Switch is there. This wouldn’t be the first time a game in the Xenoblade Chronicles series would be ported to another platform.
Strangely enough, the original Xenoblade Chronicles was brought from the Wii to New Nintendo 3DS hardware in its entirety, and was also available through backwards compatibility on Wii U. Unfortunately, as of right now, Xenoblade Chronicles X is stuck on only one platform with a very limited range of consumers.
