Axiom Verge Switch Publisher Donates 75% of Shares to Healthcare for Developer’s Son

The physical release of Axiom Verge is on sale for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Vita starting today. Its publisher BadLand Games will give 75% of the profits that it receives from the physical version towards healthcare costs for Axiom Verge creator Tom Happ’s son.

In a blog post on the official Axiom Verge website, Happ announced the news, also letting the community know about his son’s condition. Happ’s son Alastair has a “life-long condition called Kernicterus” that has “robbed him of much of his motor control and hearing.”

After Happ decided to move forward with BadLand Games as the publisher for the retail copies of Axiom Verge Switch, the publisher offered to give that large portion of its shares to assist in any medical costs for Alastair. Happ writes about BadLand Games’ generous decision, saying:

“The reason I mention this is that after we decided to move forward with BadLand Games as the publisher, they offered to donate 75% of their share to a special fund dedicated to Alastair’s ongoing health care costs. They didn’t want to publicize it, since none of us wanted to be seen as trying to use my son’s suffering as a marketing tool for the game. I hope this doesn’t come off that way. I just wanted to thank them for their generosity in offering that up, since it was definitely something they didn’t have to do.”

The physical version retails on PS4 and Vita for $29.99 in North America, while the Axiom Verge Switch version goes for $39.99. This is due to added cartridge costs, but BadLand Games is also including the official soundtrack CD as a bonus to anyone that buys Axiom Verge Switch.
