Skyrim “DirectX 9 Game”, PC Mods Coming to Consoles?

I don't think I can properly relate to people impatient for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. To tell you the truth, I've never played an Elder Scrolls game. You might be saying "What's wrong with you?! Are you stupid?! What the hell?!"

Back off, okay. I never played the games because well, frankly, they didn't look too good. Fallout 3 had some pretty amazing word-of-mouth and my brother got it for me for Christmas. So now that I'm open to the Bethesda-styled RPG and… you know, Skyrim will be running in a new engine, I feel pretty good about anticipating such a beast of a game.

That's why it surprises me to hear Todd Howard say that:

The game looks the same [on PC and on the consoles]. With the PC, the texture sizes are going to be as big as you want to make them, and you can pump the resolution up, obviously. [Skyrim] is mostly a DirectX 9 game in terms of how the shaders work.

Those of you PC gamers with up-to-date machines might be worried about Skyrim's visual quality, but I'm happy to hear that I might actually be able to run the game on my outdated machine. I'm sure I'm not alone. Of course, being able to run Skyrim on my PC won't matter if user-generated content makes its way to consoles like Todd mentioned in a recent interview:

We'd like to see it happen, because it works, it's how we made the game.

Jeez, talk about giving a massive game legs to go even further on your home console….
