Call of Duty: WW2 Supply Drops Show a Goofier Side of the Game

Call of Duty: WW2 contains loot crates (called supply drops in-game) that spit out various cosmetic goodies. Of course, these cost real money, though they can likely be earned in the game by grinding hard enough. Call of Duty has had supply drops since Advanced Warfare, but WW2 takes the experience to a new level by allowing other plays to see your loot crate as it opens.

In Headquarters mode, Call of Duty: WW2’s social space. Players can call down supply drops in any empty space, and it will open in-game where everyone can see what you got. As seen in the below clip from Redditor cuzselle, the process is hilariously over-the-top, and I can’t wait to see 48 people dropping supply crates all over the place. I have to say though, the animations were smooth and well-done, and I’m surprised there wasn’t some lag or visual oddities.

How to open a Supply Drop in WW2 from WWII

Some may say this goes against the more realistic portrayal of war Sledgehammer and Activision have been aiming for, but luckily correspondence like the one below from soldiers that fought in World War II confirms that this is a spot on interpretation of the combat at Normandy.

Dear Mom,

This is the first chance I have gotten to write since myself and the five other soldiers in the Allied invasion force assaulted Utah Beach. We came under fire immediately by a force that seemingly consisted entirely of snipers. We were pinned down for a while until Private 20$m0ke20 was able to call in a supply drop. Luckily, he was able to get a totally sweet “Strategic Bombing” rare gun handle and a new salute, and we flanked the Germans while they were in awe.

I am glad you were not there to hear what they said about you ma.

Your Son,

Technical Sergeant 4 P3N158R14N
