Original Xbox Backward Compatibility

These Original Xbox Games Are the First to Be Backward Compatible With Xbox One

Microsoft is making good on their promise to make original Xbox titles backwards compatible with the Xbox One. In addition to being able to play on the latest console, these OG Xbox games will get some enhancements to bring them up-to-date visually. Some of these titles are fan favorites, and you’ll want to dust off your old Xbox library to play them.

Original Xbox Backwards Compatible List: Which Titles Have Compatibility With the Xbox One?

Beginning October 24, 13 original Xbox titles will be compatible with the Xbox One:

  • Black
  • Bloodrayne 2
  • Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
  • Dead to Rights
  • Fuzion Frenzy
  • Grabbed by the Ghoulies
  • The King of Fighters Neowave
  • Ninja Gaiden Black
  • Price of Persia: The Sands of Time
  • Psychonauts
  • Red Faction II
  • Sid Meier’s Pirates!
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

You can play these games one of two ways. If you own an original copy, you can put the disc in your Xbox One, and after a small download, you can play. If you don’t own a copy, you can buy a lot of these games on the Xbox Store for $9.99. However, if you don’t have one of these games and you want to play, you can probably find a copy at a used game store for cheaper than ten bucks.

Original Xbox Backward Compatibility Upgrades and System Link

Fans of original Xbox multiplayer will be happy to know that the System Link function still works when playing compatible games on Xbox One. Crimson Skies, in particular, can be played with four Xbox Ones linked together, though the online multiplayer isn’t available at this time.

All of these 13 titles are upscaled to 1080p, though most are stuck at a 4:3 aspect ratio. Many of them also have smoother and/or higher framerates and faster loading times. As for what original Xbox titles are coming next, we don’t have any clues. A lot of these games were produced by studios who aren’t around or contain music with expired licenses. The original Xbox had quite a few exclusive gems that didn’t get the attention they deserved their first time around, so hopefully, they’ll get a chance to shine with Xbox One backwards compatibility.
