The First Super Mario Odyssey Review is Out and It’s a Perfect 10

Super Mario Odyssey is arguably the most anticipated game in a month full of huge AAA releases. EDGE magazine was lucky enough to get a chance to review the game two weeks early, and it looks like Nintendo might be the big winner this October.

This month’s copy of EDGE was delayed to accommodate the Super Mario Odyssey embargo. However, according to Nintendo Everything, even though issues aren’t supposed to go out until tomorrow, some stores have already put them on display. On the Rllmuk forum a user posted an image of EDGE’s Super Mario Odyssey review score, and unsurprisingly it’s a 10 out of 10.

Nintendo has really hit it out of the park this year, and it’s great to see it’s recovering from the malaise that seemed to fall over it during the Wii U days. While the 3DS has performed excellently in the market, the Wii U never came close to matching the Wii’s sales. Plenty of people were apprehensive about how the Nintendo Switch would sell, but as the last year has shown, stores can’t keep them on the shelves.

With first-party titles like Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, Nintendo could probably just put out two games for the Switch a year, and you’d still get more than your money’s worth for it. Breath of the Wild proved that the Switch could perform out of the gate, but if this early review is any indicator Super Mario Odyssey will show the console/handheld hybrid has staying power.

We’ll have to wait to see what the rest of the video game industry has to say about Super Mario Odyssey (including GameRevolution). You can expect further reviews closer to the game’s launch on October 27.
