A Nightmare Creatures Reboot Wasn’t What We Were Expecting Today

A Nightmare Creatures reboot is on its way, with the PlayStation-era horror game set to make a comeback following a surprising announcement at PAX West 2017.

The original Nightmare Creatures was released way back in 1997 by the now-defunct development studio Kalisto Entertainment, receiving a reasonably favorable critical and commercial response at the time, though failing to leave any kind of remarkable impact upon its genre in an era defined by the likes of Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Still, it had its fans, and those fans will be happy to hear that the series is being revived by Albino Moose Games.

The new entry is set in the same year as the ’97 game, with it taking place both before and after the events of the original. Unfortunately, he visuals and voice acting in the debut trailer leave a lot to be desired, though it’s a very early build so we’ll give its developers the benefit of the doubt. Still, it’s difficult to not crack up a little bit when greeted by this gruesome character model:

Here’s an overview of Nightmare Creatures‘ story, from its official website:

“In 1666, a cult made up of the world’s most influential players created an elixir that would grant them vast unholy powers – but something went terribly wrong, and their experiments yielded only bloodthirsty, mutant horrors. As the cult is decimated from the inside by betrayal and the creatures escape into London, a traveling priest and the daughter of a murdered immunlogist fight their way to the center of the city and defeat the evil once and for all… or so they believe.

Set before and after the events of the original games, Nightmare Creatures returns after almost 20 years – backed up by the devs and horror superfans at Albino Moose games. Join characters familiar and new as they race around the world to stop the hellish machinations of Adam Crowley, before he uncovers the secrets of the elixir and drowns the world… in Nightmare Creatures!”

Nightmare Creatures is still early in development, though Rely on Horror reports that the game is projected to be released on PC and current generation platforms. Watch the announcement trailer below:
