Blizzard Announces WoW 7.3 Release Date, Kel’Thuzad for HotS, and More [Gamescom 2017]

Among several other high-profile publishers, Blizzard Entertainment is on the show floor at Gamescom 2017. With dozens of demo stations on the show floor and seemingly limitless goodies for attendees, it’s been a favorite among show-goers.

Below are the highlights of Blizzard’s announcements at Gamescom.

World of Warcraft – Shadows of Argus

Shadows of Argus is just a few days away. Today, Blizzard announced that the 7.3 update is hitting the servers on August 29th ushering a new chapter for the Legion expansion.

In this major update, players will be asked to head to the original homeworld of the Draenei to combat the Legion. An epic continuation of the expansion’s narrative will be featured alongside major additions to progression, including new loot that ranges from item level 845 to 885.

The main content additions are a dungeon titled The Seat of the Triumvirate, a new tier of unlocks in the Artifact progression system titled Netherlight Crucible, updated animations for Mage and Priest, in addition to meaningful class balance changes.

Heroes of the Storm – Call of Kel’Thuzad

Kel’Thuzad is coming as a playable character to Heroes of the Storm. Known as the original Lich King, Kel’Thuzad was famed for his Warcraft 3 appearance, in addition to being  the final boss for the original Naxxramas raid.

Alongside the hero addition, Blizzard will be adding the Death Knight Sonja, Crypt Queen Zagara, and Dreadlord Jaina skins, a new in-game event that spans four weeks called Call of Kel’Thuzad, as well as some gameplay updates.

The Call of Kel’Thuzad event will provide new quests to complete for event exclusive rewards.

StarCraft 2 – Dehaka Co-Op Commander

Blizzard is showing some love to StarCraft fans by adding a new co-op commander. Dehaka, the Zerg the primal Zerg pack leader, will arrive along with an all-new angle on the game mode.

Dehaka’s gameplay was officially described as follows:

The main focus of playing Dehaka is the direct control of his hero unit, collection of enemy essence, and making choices for unlocking new abilities during the mission. As Dehaka picks up essence from fallen enemies, he will grow in size, gaining health, attack damage, and mutation points, which he can use to unlock new active abilities and passive upgrades. By the end of the mission, Dehaka should be a nearly unstoppable force of nature rivaling anything we’ve ever seen in Co-op.

This addition is arriving on the heels of a major blog post by Blizzard which outlined significant changes it will be implementing in an update later this year that will address the game’s unit and economy design.
