Blizzard Gamescom Schedule All But Confirms New Overwatch Map, Cinematic

Blizzard has just released their full Gamescom Schedule, and it’s potentially much more revealing than just telling you where to be and when, depending on how close you’re willing to read its many Overwatch-related entries. Interpreted one way, this schedule might have confirmed recent rumors of a brand new core map and cinematic coming to Overwatch very soon.

First up on the Overwatch schedule is an entry titled “Overwatch Insights,” which says “Take a closer look at what’s happening in Overwatch, including a playthrough of the newest map.” With this entry, it does say “newest,” not “new,” or “brand new,” so this could be a map we already know about. Lunar Colony is far too old at this point to be likely, but it could be the upcoming Deathmatch Map “Chateau Guillard,” which is currently available on the Overwatch PTR.

That said, an announcer voice line has been datamined from the most recent PTR patch, and it clearly says “Welcome to Junkertown.” This obviously hints at a new map called Junkertown, so, the entry at gamescom could be a full reveal of the new map with an accompanying playthrough.

The other entry, as you can see above, is more generic, announcing the reveal of Blizzard’s “latest cinematic content and more.” Of course, Overwatch is one of their biggest games for cinematics, and they take the Overwatch story and universe very seriously, so it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibilities for this to indicate another cinematic.

Suffice it to say, it’s an exciting time to be an Overwatch player.
