Sonic Mania’s PC Edition Delayed Shortly Before Release

If you were looking forward to getting your Sonic Mania on as a PC player this Tuesday, your hopes may just have been dashed. Sega has just shared that the PC version is going to be going in for a “bit more optimization” during a livestream that occurred today, and it’s now scheduled for release on August 29.

“We are not going to put out a game that is not the best it can be,” he added. “And we’re going to maintain that level of quality and consistency and dedication to that quality. It is so important to us,” Sonic community manager Aaron Webber stated.

But there’s no need to drown your tears in chili dogs, though. Even though there’s a little longer to wait, Sega is going to be giving out a free code for Sonic the Hedgehog on Steam for anyone who’s preordered the game by August 15 or anyone who’s bought the Collector’s Edition. The PC version of the Collector’s Edition will be shipping out on August 15, but if you use your Steam code before August 29 you’ll only get the original Sonic game ahead of the August 29 release date.

Even if you find yourself having to wait a little longer, it’s good to know a little more time is being taken to make sure Sonic Mania is the best it can be. Sonic as a franchise sure does need a little more TLC these days, after all.
