Crytek Wants 8GB of RAM in Next-Gen Consoles

There's no denying that Crysis 2 looks great, no matter what platform you play it on… While the original Crysis was such a beast it was considered a PC benchmark device, Crysis 2 maintains it's level of fidelity across the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

All those textures, polygons, and… magic bits don't happen on their own though. The platform has to have the processing power, the graphics capabilities, and random access memory to make it all happen.

The average gaming PC has about 8GBs of RAM nowadays. The PS3 and Xbox 360 only have about half a gig. Crytek thinks the next generation of consoles needs to be beefier:

My finger-pointing at Microsoft/Sony would really be on the memory side. It's way too low, and the biggest crippling factor from a visual perspective. I would really like to see next-gen console platforms with a minimum of 8GB.

That's Crytek engineer Tiago Sousa. Aside from his name, Tiago's claim to fame is that he's Crytek's principal graphics engineer. If Crysis 2 looks as good as it does on the current generation's consoles, why do you think Crytek wants 16x as much RAM in the next generation of hardware?
